Call of the Wild: Adventure Vacations
for Families -
|
| |
|
For families
looking for a vacation that's out of the ordinary, nature meets adventure at
these popular -- and activity-driven -- destinations.
|
|
|
|
Situated off the coast of British Columbia,
Vancouver Island boasts rugged shorelines and soaring evergreen trees, and
afford awesome opportunities for seal spotting and whale watching. Johnstone
Strait is the best place on earth to see orcas in the wild. SKA offers a
six-day tour for families with teens as young as 14 in two-person kayaks. The
guides provide equipment, give paddling lessons, and will point out sea birds
and marine animals. Learn about the mammals that inhabit the local waters at
the Bones Museum in Telegraph Cove. Then, in the spirit of Free Willy,
adopt an orca for your family for $60 -- all funds go to whale studies and
conservation. |
|
|
|
Spend Spring Break with your family exploring
the rich marine life, volcanic shoreline, and cacti-dotted desert islands of
Baja California's Loreto Bay National Marine Park by kayak, stopping to camp on
remote beaches and snorkel with angelfish in 72-degree water. SKA offers a
six-day kayak tour for families wanting an active vacation away from the
crowded resorts. The guides lead nature hikes, give snorkeling lessons, and
dish out beach side meals. SKA supports sea turtle conservation through its
t-shirt sales at the end of the trip by donating the funds to local
conservation groups. |
British Columbia Kayak Tours -
|
  |
|
We are already booking spaces on our summer
camping and lodge-based kayaking trips in beautiful British Columbia. BC's
Inside Passage and Vancouver Island coast offers spectacular kayaking featuring
hundreds of forested islands, protected waterways and a profusion of marine
life. We are offering the following six-day adventures this summer.
|
Johnstone
Strait: The best place in the world to observe orcas (fish-eating
resident killer whales) in the wild from a kayak. SKA offers six days of
paddling and camping in this marine paradise along the Inside Passage. View
Rich Lander's video journal of Sea Kayaking and Camping in
Johnstone Strait and his encounter with orcas. As well, read Don Mallon's
article about his
Orca
Odyssey off northern Vancouver Island. |
Wilderness
Islands of Queen Charlotte Strait: Kayak in remote waters, hike in
old-growth forest, and encounter amazing wildlife. A water taxi takes
participants deeper into the wilderness, where the snow-capped mountains of
mainland British Columbia create a stunning backdrop to your return journey.
After dodging the whale flukes, seals, sea otters and curious porpoises,
youll set up camps on the pebbly, driftwood-strewn beaches of secluded
islands. |
God's
Pocket Resort: Comfortable lodge-based kayaking with private rooms, hot
showers & chef cuisine at a fabulous island archipelago. "We had the most
amazing time at God's Pocket! The area is prisitine and the life you see all
around is overwhelming - whales, sea lions, eagles, starfish and dolphins - to
name a few. We counted 34 bald eagles in one day!" - Chuck & Pam
Steffen |
Queen
Charlotte Islands: Sea kayaking in Haida Gwaii (Queen Charlotte Islands)
for 8 days is a spectacular experience. From remote wilderness travel,
fantastic wildlife, and a rich First Nations heritage, this area encompasses it
all. If you are looking for a true wilderness experience that has you traveling
through a rich and diverse ecosystem along with rich Haida culture, then this
is the trip for you! July 19-26. Cost: $2500 CND. |

T-shirt sales support local
conservation group |
|
SKA is giving half the money from our T-shirt
sales in Baja to Grupo Tortuguerohttp://www.grupotortuguero.org/content/1/1/1.html, a local
conservation group working to save endangered sea turtles in Baja's Magdalena
Bay. When you purchase a t-shirt from us at your farewell dinner, $10 will go
towards supporting Grupo Tortuguero. Several of SKA's Mexican guides, Charo and
Vladimir, work with Grupo Tortuguero during our off-season in Baja.
Also, we have partnered with
Native Energy Travel Offsets to support programs to offset
all the impact running our business does to the atmosphere. We paid them for
projects such as wind power to offset our carbon emissions. |
