Robson Bight
Orca Preserve is the world's first and only orca preserve, set up by Canada
in 1982 in an unique part of Johnstone Strait with pebble beaches favored by
the orcas for belly rubbing.
Our tours
here (out of Port McNeill) allow us the opportunity to view orcas, kayaking
through the scenic waters which contain the highest density of killer whales
anywhere in the northern hemisphere. These northern resident orcas are
attracted strictly to the prolific salmon runs that are funneled from the open
ocean by geography into this narrow strait each summer. Thus, it is a major
site of study by the world's most renowned orca scientists. In a sea kayak,
there is an immediacy to the whole whale watching experience that just can't be
replicated in a bigger boat. In a sea kayak you are part of the scene, not
merely viewing it.

Wilderness
Islands - our secret tour itinerary BC Canada |
|
We
developed this unique signature trip in
God's Pocket
Provincial Park and nearby islands just off northern Vancouver Island. This
is Canada's newest park. The meeting point for the 6-day sea kayaking trip is
the North Vancouver Island town of Port Hardy. A one-way water taxi takes
participants deeper into the wilderness of the park, where the snow-capped
mountains of mainland British Columbia create a stunning backdrop to their
return journey. After dodging the whale flukes, seals, sea otters, curious
porpoises and orcas, we set up camps on the pebbly, driftwood-strewn beaches of
secluded islands like Bell, Hurst, Nigei and Vansitart in an uninhabited
emerald island archipelago bordered by Goletas Channel and Queen Charlotte
Strait. Other activities include: exploring tide pools filled with vibrant sea
stars and anemones, trekking into lush rain forests, visiting islands and sites
rich in native history and remote camping. Jacques Cousteau was deeply
struck by the marine diversity of life in this area upon visiting.

God's Pocket
Resort |
|
We have exclusive use of the resort
for our lodge-based sea kayak tours in the heard of
God's Pocket
Provincial Park. One week of sea kayaking, hiking, whale and eagle watching
out of Gods Pocket Resort, a seven-room private lodge, located north of
British Columbias Vancouver Island. A trip that would immerse you in
Canadas newest marine park, Gods Pocket Provincial Park, rated by
Jacques Cousteau as the best cold water SCUBA dive spot for its diverse
underwater life, which in turn attracts fish, marine mammals and sea birds in
droves. A trip that would give us the best of wilderness, quiet and luxury -
fresh, organic seafood, meals prepared by the resort's chef, local wines.
Its very much a zen experience, says Terry Prichard, owner of
sea kayak adventures. Its like being hugged by nature. SKA

Carbon
Offsetting |
|
We are the only sea kayak company we know of
who now offsets our company carbon footprint. We are working now with
Native Energy Travel Offsets to support programs to offset all the impact
running our business does to the atmosphere. We paid them for projects such as
wind power to offset our carbon emissions in 2007, and plan to do so every
future year we are in business. We invite you to learn more and to learn how
you can offset your air travel

SKA makes donation to local
conservation group |
|

In March 2008, SKA donated $1000 to
Grupo Tortuguero, a
local conservation group working to save endangered sea turtles in southern
Baja's Magdalena Bay. Several of SKA's Mexican guides, Charo and Vladimir, work
with Grupo Tortuguero during our off-season in Baja.
We are also in the planning stages of offering
conservation-minded tours to support local conservation groups like Grupo
Tortuguero. Turtle Monitoring in Mag Bay with Grupo Tortuguero and Kayaking in
the Sea of Cortez with Sea Kayak Adventures will connect travelers with
wildlife and local conservation efforts for an inspiring 6-day adventure. We'll
have more information in the next newsletter about this new tour.

About Loreto,
Baja |
|
Loreto is the place where the
mountains come to the sea. With the Sierra de la Giganta Mountains, the desert
and the Sea of Cortez all coming together, Loreto is a special place. People
come to Loreto to explore its rich historical legacy, as well as some of
Bajas best hiking, whale-watching, sea kayaking and snorkeling along the
beautiful coastline, and to get away from the hustle and bustle of a big resort
town. Come see what Jacques Cousteau proclaimed the worlds
aquarium" and the "Mexican Galapagos. The downtown area, a short 2 blocks
from the beach, has a quaint town square, cobblestone streets and colonial
architecture, including the mission cathedral built in 1697 and still in use
today. The museum adjacent to the cathedral is well worth a visit.
