Meet the Sea Kayak Adventures Fleet

In three decades of leading sea kayaking and whale watching tours across the globe, we've developed a deep affection and appreciation for our boats! After all, they are our vehicles of exploration and our constant companions on-water.

We also know that the equipment you sit in and paddle each day has a tremendous impact on your overall experience. Over the years we've partnered with Seaward Kayaks to build a custom kayak fleet to meet the demands of our Baja and British Columbia sea kayak tours. These are fiberglass kayaks which are considerably more expensive and of higher quality than plastic roto-molded boats that some outfitters use. In some locations we also use Necky or other plastic composite roto-molded boats. These are best when we have to load/unload kayaks from trailers frequently. Some of these plastic models also have larger cockpit sizes that fit larger people better.

The majority of our fleet is comprised of tandems, as these boats offer the greatest stability, capacity, speed, and ease of paddling. There are typically a small number of single kayaks present on each tour, which will be utilized by the guides. We also have a limited number of single kayaks available to reserve and use throughout the trip (for an additional cost) for paddlers who have ocean kayaking experience. Single kayaks move more slowly than tandems, so if you want a single kayak please be sure you are realistic about your experience and ability. The availability of single kayaks varies by destination and itinerary.

Many of our commonly used boats in Baja and British Columbia are listed below. While this is not an exhaustive list of every model we currently own and use, these are our most frequently used kayaks in BC and Baja. If you have specific questions about our kayaks or their specs, we hope you'll find this resource helpful. Additionally, our friendly team of Adventure Consultants is always here to help!

If you have additional questions about what kind of kayaks might be used on a specific tour, please look to the trip page for more details.

Can I Paddle a Single Kayak

The majority of our fleet is comprised of tandems, as these boats offer the greatest stability, speed, and ease of paddling. There are typically a small number of single kayaks present on the tour, which will be utilized by the guides. Depending on weather conditions, and interest, they may allow guests to rotate into singles; however this will be at the guide's' discretion based on safety and the paddling objectives for the day. We also have single kayaks available to reserve and use throughout the trip (for an additional cost of $100) for paddlers who have previous ocean paddling experience. If you would like to reserve a single kayak for your trip you will need to contact our Adventure Consultants to add this to your reservation and provide a summary of your ocean paddling experience

Can I Bring My Own Paddle and Accessories?

Sea Kayak Adventures provides all of the necessary paddling equipment for all of our tours: sea kayak, paddle, spray skirt, paddle leash, etc. However; if you're an expereinced paddler and would like to bring any of your own equipment you are welcome to do so. It's imprtant to communicate with your Adventure Consultant and your Guides upon arrival, to ensure you have appropriate equipment and that it's compatible with our fleet of kayaks.
