Baja - Day Tours

Baja Desert Culture & History: San Javier Mission (Loreto)
Experience the Baja that few visitors see. Get a closer look at Baja's history and culture. Loreto was the first settlement by the Spanish in all of California, and from here, small missions were created along the entire peninsula. You will travel to the historic San Javier Mission that stands in its original form since 1744. Upon arrival, you'll enjoy a tour of the mision and an introduction to life in this small village by a local guide. San Javier only recently got electricity! You will also visit a local farm and learn to make tortillas by hand after a walk through the orchards and a warm lunch.

Blue Whale/Fin Whale Corridor (Loreto)
Join us for a fun, thrill-of-a-lifetime day tour in the Sea of Cortez looking for blue and fin whales that cruise the waters of Loreto Bay National Marine Park/UNESCO World Heritage site. Blue whales are the largest animal to ever inhabit the earth, with a body mass equal to 24 elephants and a mouth that could swallow a railroad box car. While blue whale sightings are not guaranteed, this is one of the few places on Earth to see these deep-ocean creatures with regularity. The islands off Loreto are often referred to as the “blue whale corridor.” Fin whales, the second largest whales, are even more common and equally breathtaking. Maximum 6 passengers per boat.

Skiff & Snorkel Tour Isla Coronado (Loreto)
Isla Coronado (Coronado Island) is a hat-shaped cinder-cone island off the coast of Loreto. The island features white sand beaches, sea lion colonies, and fantastic snorkeling. Spend the day snorkeling with colorful fish, enjoying a picnic lunch on the beach, and taking a nature hike with your bilingual guide. This is a perfect way to see the third island in the Loreto Bay National Marine Park, or as a Sea of Cortez extension from your whale camp tour. Maximum 6 passengers per boat.

Gray Whale Watching Tour (Loreto)
Extend your multi-day trip with a visit to Magdalena Bay on the Pacific Coast of the Baja Peninsula! These are the calving grounds of the gray whale. Here in the shallow waters of the bay, gray whales are becoming world famous for their "friendly" behavior toward whale watchers. The whales will often bring their calves right up to look back at you! This is one of the world's closest whale encounters.

Whale Shark Snorkeling Tour (La Paz)
Spend an extra day in Mexico snorkeling with whale sharks in the shallow bay of La Paz. Take a skiff out and enjoy the sunny skies of La Paz while searching for whale sharks, dolphins & watching the birds fly over. Once a whale shark is found, hop into the water with your whale shark specialist and follow the whale shark as it snacks on plankton. These juvenile whale sharks that roam the La Paz waters can vary in size, and tend to move fairly slowly as they eat. This is also a perfect way to see the waters around La Paz, as well as Espiritu Santo in the distance. A local whale shark guide accompanies you on your swim. Their knowledge and passion for whale sharks are obvious as they work to make your time swimming in La Paz educative, meaningful, and memorable.Maximum 8 passengers per boat.

FAQ & More

How far in advance should I book?

While some tours can be arranged on fairly short notice, we recommend planning your day tour well in advance of your travel. Many of our guests arrange the tour months in advance. Our popular gray whale day tours sell out each year, and are best reserved well ahead of time. Some tours, like our blue & fin whale tours, require a bit of flexibility to ensure that water and weather conditions are suitable.

Are Hotels included in the Day tours?

Hotels are not included in the price of your day tours.  We do recommend Hacienda Suites in Loreto and Seven Crown Centro in La Paz for your lodgings as these hotels are used for meetings and orientations with your tours.

Can I book a tour extension without booking a multiday trip?

No, these day trips are only offered as add-ons to our multi-day packages. Give us a call to figure out which adventure package is right for you!
